SRSLY. has been playing host to a mixture of house and UK bass acts at Torino's Astoria club since its inception in early 2011. Held throughout Milan Design Week, Elita has become one of northern Italy's most well known boutique festivals. Spread across a variety of club and live music spaces, the five-day event plays host to over two-dozen international artists and 18 parties each year, spanning right across the electronic spectrum. Next year's Elita will be no different, with a range of house, techno and experimental acts set to perform. So far, the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, Maya Jane Coles and Mr Scruff are amongst the names already confirmed, as are Ghostpoet and Skrillex. It's all set to get underway on April 18th, and will carry on through to the 22nd. Eight venues are so far confirmed to be housing Elita events, with the Magazzini Generali, Tunnel and Rocket clubs amongst them. ![]() Club to Club have completed their lineup for 2011. The first takes place in Milan on October 20th with live performances from Space Dimension Controller and Tri Angle artist Holy Other, plus a DJ set from Kyle Hall. The next is that Friday in Torino, and features electronic renditions of Tchaikovsky by Paola Dellapiana. The following night, Italian artist Teho Teardo will play for free at Torino's Museo D'Arte Orientale. The final Viva Club to Club party will be in Rome on October 22nd with Jeff Mills and Italian techno artist Giorgio Gigli. ![]() Deetron, Sebo K, Will Saul and a mystery headliner complete the line-up for the Italian stop in our tenth anniversary event series, RA X.
It's time for the seventh of ten parties in our year-long celebration. The X has assembled a cast of characters that straddle the line between house and techno. Deetron is the Swiss producer known for his mastery of three turntables at a time, Sebo K plies his deep house trade at clubs around the world, although perhaps most notably at Berlin's Watergate and Will Saul captains two of our favorite labels, Aus and Simple Records. It all goes down on September 30th at Rome's famed Brancaleone club. Per usual, we have a limited edition poster in the works for you as well. Will Bankhead, the man behind covers from Mo Wax, Honest Jons and his own Trilogy Tapes imprint, has done the honors. Only 75 of the screen prints will be made available. ![]() The initial line-up has been announced for Movement Torino 2011, taking place at the end of October. Italy's—and indeed Europe's—leg of the famous Detroit three-dayer, Movement, returns for its sixth edition. Falling back upon the formula of a single day main event, Movement Torino 2011 will be suitably warmed up by a series of pre-parties happening throughout the city in the run up to Monday 31st. Space Dimension Controller and Kyle Hall will be opening the festivities on Thursday 27th with their spacey disco and soul-soaked house and techno styles. The other pre-party mentioned so far is a Circoloco event happening on the Saturday, with Stacey Pullen, DJ W!ld, Tania Vulcano and Davide Squillace all billed. As for the festival proper, due to take place once more in the impressive Pala Olimpico stadium, veterans Carl Craig and Derrick May will be solidly representing Detroit, with May being one of the DEMF's original founders. Craig will be using the outing to perform live as 69, the alias he used between 1991 and 1995, culminating in the The Sound Of Music LP for R&S. Laurent Garnier is the other live act mentioned, performing as his L.S.B. project with Benjamin Rippert and Stephane "Scan X" Dri. Damian Lazarus, John Digweed, Steffi, Cassy, Art Department and Green Velvet complete this first round of announcements, with more yet to be released. ![]() Turin's Club to Club festival have announced the first batch of acts on their 2011 lineup.
Built upon a reputation for delivering a medley of exclusives—which last year included Kode9 performing unreleased Burial material and Jeff Mills unveiling his Something In The Sky audiovisual project—Club to Club 2011 is set to return in a similar fashion. The Hyperdub head will be back leading a label showcase that so far includes one of its latest signings, the enigmatic London/Berlin duo Hype Williams. Ramadanman / Pearson Sound and Jackmaster will also be present, with Lone the final British artist named this time round. From Germany, Pantha Du Prince will bring a live audio-visual performance. Apparat will be showcasing his latest electro-indie outfit, Apparat Band. And, finally, Ben Klock will bring some Berghain flavours. Detroit veteran Theo Parrish is also billed to play an extended set. As per this year's theme of "The Italian New Wave," a host of local and Italian talent will perform as well. Though rooted firmly in the area around Mannheim, Germany, where the festival has taken place nearly every year since 1994, Time Warp occasionally throws one-off events in other cities around Europe—Prague and Vienna had their turns a few years ago, and last year the festival made its debut in Holland. This fall's edition in Milan has all the key factors that make the party what it is: most importantly, a slew of house and techno heavyweights, and an absolutely enormous space (Fiera Milano measures in at 345,000 square meters). The DJ bill so far includes familiar faces like Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Magda, Loco Dice, Carl Cox, Karotte, Ellen Allien and CLR boss Chris Liebing. More names are due to be announced in the months ahead. ![]() The roBOt digital music and art festival returns to Bologna between 28th September and 1st October.
Last month, Young Turks dropped SBTRKT's eponymous debut album—a collection of "song-based experiments" with vocal appearances from former collaborators like Sampha and Jessie Ware. To promote the album, the masked producer has hit the festival circuit this summer with a mixture of live and DJ performances, using roBOt to debut a new live act with band in tow. Other acts confirmed include Space Dimension Controller, Maya Jane Coles, Deniz Kurtel and Bjørn Torske and Seth Troxler. Recent RA podcaster artist Tobi Neumann, completes the DJ lineup, along with Snatch! man Riva Starr. The remainder of the music program is filled with a slew of sound-based performances taking place in the halls of the Palazzo Re Enzo, and includes "Riga-escapism" by RIGA, a project formed from field recording sound samples and the programming of analogue and digital audio sources. Bernardo Santarelli will also present his "Noisy pig show"—a Riot grrrl-inspired surreal cabaret with live electro-punk soundtrack, plus an electro-acoustic performance from Fabio Battistetti using wood "as a musical font". Various other art projects, installations and film screenings will be scattered throughout the festival. ![]() My My's Lee Jones will appear at Napoli's Lido Don Pablo in early July.
Jones is the Berlin-based British producer of stripped-back techno and house, who records with Ostgut's Nick Höppner as the aforementioned My My, and has a number of releases under his own name for Will Saul's Aus Music imprint. Jones' most recent project had him following in the footsteps of Ellen Allien and Sebo K, turning in a mix for the compilation series of Berlin club Watergate. The forthcoming July event with Jones will bring a little flavour of the German capital to Napoli courtesy of Italo-London promoters no-attitude, who have also lined up Watergate resident Robin Drimalski and a host of local DJs for the bash. Tickets for no-attitude presents Watergate Berlin can be purchased in advance here from RA Tickets. ![]() Bobo, a 50-year-old beach club on the Italian Riviera, will reopen this weekend with a newly revamped interior, sound system and music program. The club's reincarnation is the work of WIP, the promoter that used to run a venue of the same name in Barcelona. Aside from remodeling a bit and installing a new Funktion One, they've given Bobo a new musical personality, with dozens of house and techno acts lined up throughout the summer. Programming will come from two other Spanish clubbing brands: Matinee, the day-party at Amnesia in Ibiza, and PlayON, a promoter that's done parties in Barcelona (most notably during Sonar) as well as Bologna. Matinee will handle Saturdays, with lineups that are mostly still TBA, and PlayON will take care of Sundays, with artists like Catz 'N Dogz, DVS1, Sascha Dive and Wbeeza already confirmed. A few one-off events will take place this summer as well, such as a night hosted by Berlin's Watergate club, a label showcase from Rekids and a party by esteemed London outfit Secretsundaze. The season kicks off on Saturday night with an official opening party, featuring Dan Ghenacia and Anthony Collins.
