The first names for EXIT festival's Dance Arena in 2013 have been announced.
This year's festival will take place from July 10th through 14th in Novi Sad, Serbia. Set in the moat of the Petrovaradin Fortress, the Dance Arena is where much of EXIT's electronic music can be heard. The first wave of announcements for this year's instalment Seth Troxler, Dubfire, German duo Pan-Pot and French collective Apollonia. Crosstown Rebels' Subb-an will play back-to-back with Adam Shelton, while Deniz Kurtel and Minus man Matador are both slated to play live. Other names booked for the festival's 19 additional stages include Atoms For Peace and Shogun Audio head DJ Friction. ![]() More acts have been announced for Exit Festival 2012.
The new additions further enhance the lineup's diversity, while keeping a heavy focus on electronic music. Along with rock veterans like Guns N' Roses and Duran Duran, Swedish indie outfit Little Dragon have been confirmed, as have When Saints Go Machine, Azari & III and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Straight up house and techno will come from Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Art Department and Felix Da Housecat. R&S will show off some of their wares with Lone, Pariah and The Chain. All of these acts join a bill that already includes New Order, Buraka Som Sistema and Luciano among others. ![]() The first edition of Resonate will take place later this month in Belgrade.
The new-media festival's program brings together visual artists, creative technologists and musicians for a two-day line-up of workshops, exhibitions, performances and club parties in Serbia's capital. Festival participants include well-known collectives such as United Visual Artists, onedotzero and Warp Records, alongside more cult-figures like Josh Nimoy, who created the visual effects for TRON, and Nicholas Felton, the man behind the Facebook timeline. Musical highlights include DJ Spooky and ANBB, a collaboration between Alva Noto and Blixa Bargeld, former guitarist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. ![]() The first names have been announced for Exit 2012, taking place in July at its usual venue, the Petrovaradin Fortress in Serbia.
Most of the acts revealed so far will perform in the Dance Arena, Exit's moat-enclosed stage for electronic music. Luciano and Reboot will fly the flag for Cadenza (with the latter playing live), along with label newcomer Robert Dietz. Maayan Nidam will DJ as well, and Kenny Larkin will bring some Detroit flavour to the mix. The biggest artists on the bill right now are veterans New Order, who seem to be back in the saddle this year with tour dates confirmed around the world (albeit without bassist Peter Hook). Portugese kuduro outfit Buraka Som Sistema will make their second appearance at Exit, having first played the festival back in 2007. ![]() Another raft of artists have been added to EXIT Festival, specifically on the Happy Novi Sad and Elektrana stages. Since 2005, the Happy Novi Sad stage has provided an underground alternative to EXIT's main Dance Arena. This year, the stage will host deeper tech house from Bulgarian producer KiNK and Romania's Cosmin TRG. Two leading labels from the UK bass scene showcase on the Friday and Saturday: Boddika, Oneman and MC Chunky join Loefah from his Swamp 81 camp, with Bok Bok, Jam City and Girl Unit representing the Night Slugs collective. Sunday concludes with a live AV show from Nosaj Thing. Meanwhile, Elektrana delivers a thoroughly international electro lineup with headline performances from Italian veteran Alexander Robotnick, French artists The Hacker and Anoraak and British retro-pop duo Futurecop! They'll be joined by a host of local performers throughout the weekend. ![]() In a statement sent out earlier today, Dis-Patch announced the "demise of its annual Belgrade festival," which would have turned ten later this year. In the same vein as Poland's Unsound or Montréal's Mutek Festival, Dis-Patch is an annual event that highlights avant-garde art and electronic music. Past editions have hosted artists like Uwe Schmidt, Ben Frost and Tim Hecker, as well as local acts like DJ Moodswinger (it also happens to be where the upcoming Vladislav Delay Quartet album was recorded). Organizers say a lack of financial support is mostly to blame for the festival's end. "Despite the high artistic and productional results, since year one the event was going through a constant fight for survival," they say. "Each new edition was basically starting from scratch." Today's statement takes aim in particular at Serbia's government-sponsored cultural programs, which it says remained uninterested and unhelpful as the festival grew bigger each year. But while this may be the end of Dis-Patch's core festival, it's by no means the end of Dis-Patch altogether. The outfit will keep putting on events around the world, not least within Belgrade. They will continue their collaboration with the Communikey festival in Boulder, which includes another round of the ViceVerse tour. Finally, they are preparing 9 Lives of a Festival, a project that explores Dis-Patch and festivals in general through a "bi-lingual publication and accompanying exhibition." Details on that one are still forthcoming. The Belgrade scene officially bid farewell to Dis-Patch last weekend with a "Burial Party" at Secer. DJs on hand for the night included Moodswinger, Lukatoyboy, Felony Flats and Piece of Sh.... A recording of the entire night can be downloaded right here. ![]() EXIT Festival have confirmed another batch of artists for their 2011 event, taking place July 7th-10th at the Petrovardian Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia. New additions run the gamut from indie rock to techno, with a few massive names in every category. High profile live sets will come from Paul Kalkbrenner, Underworld and Magnetic Man. Deadmau5 will deliver one of his "unhooked" sets, which supposedly trades the LED glitz of his usual act for a longer and more diverse performance. Joris Voorn, Carl Craig, Marco Carola and DJ Sneak will DJ, as will the always colorful Steve Aoki. Newly added rock groups include Arcade Fire, Grinderman (Nick Cave's new band) and Jarvis Cocker's classic Britpop group Pulp. All of these artists join a bill that already includes Tiga and James Zabiela. ![]() German producer Uwe Schmidt will don his glitchiest alias, Atom TM, for a headlining slot at Dis-Patch 2010.
Now in its ninth year, the two-weekend event in Belgrade covers a wide swath of the avant-garde, from noise music to art installations, with a few beats thrown in for good measure. Aside from Schmidt, electronic sounds will come from horror synth outfit Zombie Zombie and local jock DJ Moodswinger, plus a special edition of Dis-Patch's monthly bass party, Yardstyle. The rest of the bill is more abstract: Serbia's Piano Duo LP will perform Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Mantra," Carl Michael von Hausswolff will unleash some of his mind-melting drones and Australian experimental label Room40 will host their own showcase in celebration of their 10th anniversary. As in previous years, Dis-Patch will have its share of heady visual art as well. In addition to photography exhibits and "live digital murals," Barcelona-based artist Boris Hoppek will stay at the festival as an artist-in-resident to present a large-scale cardboard installation "dealing with the notion of the object of the church and its meaning in Western society." ![]() This summer, Resident Advisor will help bring some advanced, sub-heavy sounds to the Petrovaradin Fortress, with our very own Happynovisad stage at this year's edition of EXIT. Each day of the festival will bring a different sound to the stage, beginning with a showcase by Warp Records, featuring Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, and live performances by Clark and Tim Exile. The following day will be all about the sounds of Bristol, with Joker, Pinch, Gemmy and MC Nomad sharing the decks. Sound Pellegrino will take over proceedings on Saturday, with Brodinksi, L-Vis 1990 and Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team all repping the French label. For the final day of the festival, drum & bass dons D-Bridge and Instra:mental will rock the Club Autonomic showcase, flanked by dubstep artist SP:MC. ![]() More than 50 acts have been added to the 11th annual EXIT Festival line-up, scheduled to take place this July at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia. The biggest main stage additions include DFA centerpiece LCD Soundsystem, who will by then be hot on the heels of their new album, due for release on May 17th. Big name pop acts have also been billed, like Missy Elliott and alternative rockers Placebo. The Dance Arena has added David Guetta, Laidback Luke and Riva Starr, plus European house and techno artists like Solomun and Black Rose (a collaboration between Henrik Schwarz and Jesse Rose). Turntable virtuoso A-Trak will also appear behind the decks, and Norwegian disco-pop duo Ost & Kjex will perform live, accompanied by a gospel choir. Dozens more acts will perform across EXIT Festival's 25 stages, ranging from pop to techno to Polish black metal. The Fusion Stage will focus on rock-electronic crossover artists, such as Midnight Juggernauts, Jamaica and Bambi Molestors. Meanwhile, RA has helped provide some advanced bass sounds on the Happy Novi Sad Stage, courtesy of Hudson Mohawke, Joker, Pinch, D-Bridge and more. ![]() Viewing 1 - 10 of 15 news articles
