A fresh set of acts have been confirmed for the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, including IDM icon Aphex Twin.

Details have been announced for this year's L.E.V. Festival, taking place on April 29th and 30th in Spain.1 Comment
The letters L.E.V. stand for "Laboratorio de Electrónica Visual," or Visual Electronic Laboratory, and the two-day festival is precisely that. Performers are chosen not just for their music but also for the visual component they bring to the stage, which explains video-enhanced bookings like Pantha Du Prince, Demdike Stare and contemporary composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. Other highlights for this year include Darkstar, Lorn, SBTRKT, Photek and Global Communication member Mark Pritchard, AKA Harmonic 313. The program includes video screenings as well, from artists like Montreal's Herman Kolgan and the German collective Transforma. The whole event takes place at Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura, a cultural complex in the coastal city of Gijon, Spain.

Canadian electronic festival Mutek is staging a series of parties in Barcelona this week, beginning tomorrow night at Discos Paradiso.
Mutek have been using the Micro Mutek banner to stage small-scale, multi-venue events outside of their annual Montreal-based festival for the past few years. 2010 saw the team touch down in Barcelona for the first time, with a trio of parties in the city—and they will return for 2011 with an extended program over three consecutive days.
Beginning early tomorrow evening (Wednesday 9th) with a Q+A session at Discos Paradiso on the subject of event and artist management and record labels, the night will also include parties at Miscelanea and Moog Club (The Suicide of Western Culture go A/V at the former, Vaghe Stelle and Frivolous play the latter). Thursday 10th's events will be in much the same form as the previous day: Hyperdub's Ikonika appears at both the Q+A at Discos Paradiso and the party at Moog Club, while Gramofono and Microfeel mix visuals and music at Miscelanea.
Moving on the third and final day (Friday), acclaimed German producer Isolee will be among those appearing at the day's Q+A session and will go on to play at Nitsa later that evening alongside Innervisions' Dixon, Werk Discs boss Actress, and DJ Fra. Meanwhile, the early evening event at Miscelanea will take in a discussion panel that features Mutek's festival director Alain Mongeau, and A/V performances from Lucius Works Here & Oxlabb, and Boris Chimp 504.

Barcelona's Raum Club will throw two birthday parties for itself this month, with Cassy and Fatboy Slim as guests.1 Comment
Raum has become a cornerstone of the city's nightlife since it opened in 2006, bridging the gap between underground and well-known artists throughout its five years of operation. Steve Lawler headlined the previous birthday bash, and Matias Aguayo, Anja Schneider and Ibiza's Zoo Project have all appeared throughout the last 12 months. The first birthday event takes place this Saturday, with Cocoon and Panorama Bar resident Cassy. The producer, DJ and vocalist has graced labels like Perlon and Ostgut Ton with her loopy and moody 12-inches, and she'll likely provide a deeper shade of house for Raum punters on Saturday.
Two weeks later, the marquee appeal will be high with the appearance of UK big beat pioneer Fatboy Slim. Before he crossed over to the pop charts with his iconic album You've Come Along Way Baby in 1999, the Brighton producer was already a veteran of the UK dance scene, behind the scenes of the Beats International and Pizzaman production outfits. Despite big beat's downturn in popularity, Fatboy Slim remains a perennial party favourite, and his sold-out appearance at Raum looks to be another logjam affair.
The first Raum birthday event will be supported by club resident Vincent Abbo, and fellow Raum jock Will Deluxe will appear at the second.
Tickets for 5 Years Raum can be found here on RA.

The action is split between Barcelona's Poble Espanol and Parc Del Forum. Past events have drawn as many as 100,000 revelers.

This Wednesday night, Barcelona promoter UNDREZ will kick off a new weekly party called Fact Limited Edition.
The series promises to be intimate in more ways than one: each party takes place in Macarena Club, a venue in the Gothic Quarter with space for just over 100 people, and features only one DJ on the bill, each of whom will soundtrack the night with an extended five-hour set. Programming for the four parties scheduled so far ranges from Swedish techno to groovy tech house. Pär Grindvik delivers the former on February the 9th, and fabric resident Terry Francis takes the helm a week later. The end of February will see Moon Harbour artist Martinez grace the decks, and the whole thing kicks off this week with a set from Alex Celler of Cecille.

Long-running Barcelona club Raum will move its Saturday nights to Museum Poble Espanyol as of this weekend.1 Comment
The downtown Barcelona spot will kick off its Raum residency with a new 60,000 watt sound system, and a night hosting one of electronic music's most popular brands, Cocoon. From its origins as a Frankfurt nightclub, Cocoon has expanded into a global name, thanks to the popularity of its flamboyant head Sven Väth, a long-running Ibizan residency at Amnesia, and artists like Cassy, Ricardo Villalobos and Josh Wink in its roster.
Dinky's links to Cocoon go back to 2005 with the release of her Acid In My Fridge EP; since then, the Chilean born producer's wide-ranging tastes have seen her turn in techno, experimental minimal and ambient for labels like Wagon Repair and Vakant, but her appearance on Saturday should reflect the uptempo house of her recent Cocoon mix CD Musica Libre. Frenchman Guillaume Duchastel is the man behind the enthusiastic moniker DJ W!ld, and he's become a staple of Cocoon's Monday nights in Ibiza, alongside his residency for Circo Loco. His Raum set should feature plenty of previews of his forthcoming debut album Palace, due out in March. He and Dinky will be joined by Raum resident C-More.
Tickets for Inauguracion Raum Club feat Cocoon are available now from RA Tickets.

Monza Ibiza have a new record label in the works, simply entitled Monza Ibiza Records.5 Comments
Originally a dispatch from the Frankfurt club of the same name, Monza has been a part of Ibiza's clubbing landscape for years, with past residencies at Penelope, Space and Privilege. Given their strong presence on the island, launching a record label felt like a natural move for label manager Javier Gonzales. "I think after five years as a musical reference in Ibiza it was time to take a step further and capture the essence of what we offer in all of our events," he said. "And what better way than by a label where all artists can express what is Monza?"
Naturally, the label will place an emphasis on a club-ready tech house sound that's "characteristic of Ibiza nights." The first 12-inch comes from Italian producers Paul Cart and Manu L, and features remixes from White Isle regulars SIS and Carlos Sanchez, both of whom are expected to appear on future releases as well. Other artists in the stable include Nima Gorji, David Smith, Marco Faraone and Lucio Aquilina among others.

Over the next month, Barcelona nightspot BeCool will host sets from Octave One, Thomas Schumacher and Samuel L Session.
Kicking off later this evening, Detroit duo Octave One will fire up their gear-heavy live show for the Kings of Techno night. The fraternal pairing of Lenny and Lawrence Burden is rooted in the folklore of the motor city, having first appeared on the scene in 1990 and notching up collaborations with luminaries like Underground Resistance, and releases for their own 430 West Records imprint since then.
Two weeks later, veteran German DJ and producer Thomas Schumacher will take to the booth for a set of tech house and main room favourites, in honour of the 8th anniversary year of his longtime label associates Get Physical. The following Friday, Swedish tribal techno maestro Samuel L Session will step up for the third anniversary of in-house night Libido, joined by local jocks Pau Roca, Gon, Yolapincho.
