The Prodigy and a DJ set from the Chemical Brothers are the headline acts for this year's edition of Snowbombing, which will take place from April 7th through the 14th.1 Comment
Snowbombing has happened annually for over a decade. Each year, it brings a heavyweight lineup to the Mayrhofen ski resort in western Austria, enlisting artists from across the electronic music spectrum. More than 20 acts have just been added to the 2014 lineup, joining the already-announced contingent that features Roman Flügel, Scuba, Paul Woolford and more. Most of the new additions hail from the UK, with Groove Armada, Four Tet (who'll be curating the "forest arena") and Dense & Pika among those billed for live sets, and James Zabiela, Breach and Radio Slave among the newly added DJs. The Martinez Brothers, Nina Kraviz and Daphni have also been confirmed.

The ninth edition of Donaufestival comes to Krems, Austria in late April and early May.Post a comment
The festival places a strong emphasis on visual and performing arts, with programs featuring theatrical performances, installations and more running over the course of the festival's two weekends. A look at their music programming, though, shows that this aspect of the festival is in no way playing second fiddle. The first weekend, running April 25th-27th, will feature such contemporary notables as Andy Stott, Actress, Laurel Halo and Demdike Stare, plus showcases from top experimental electronic labels PAN and Tri Angle. A number of electronic luminaries—Robert Hood, Michael Rother of Neu! and Harmonia and Geoff Barrow from Portishead—will be on hand as well. Darkstar, William Basinski, Mi Ami, Biosphere and How To Dress Well are heading up the second weekend of the festival, May 2nd-5th.
You can find out more about Donaufestival through their official website, including the full lineup and ticket information.

Elevate 2012 will take place from October 24th through the 28th at venues around Graz, Austria.1 Comment
Only a handful of artists have been announced so far for the intimate annual event. The Bug will curate and headline the Friday night event at Dom Im Berg, a venue deep inside a hill that's often the centerpiece of Graz's festivals. He'll play with Jamaican Ragga vocalist Daddy Freddy and Israeli singer Misss Red, plus more artists to be announced in the next two weeks. Berlin-based Japanese artist DJ Scotch Egg has curated Saturday's program, bringing in MC Sensational, Vex'd member Roly Porter and NHK'Koyxen. Also confirmed are Mosca, Andrés, A Made Up Sound, Skudge and Pional.
As usual, there will be a robust non-musical portion to the festival as well. The "discourse and film programme" is called "Elevate the Apocalypse?", and will ponder whether the world can actually make a "societal transition to an economic system and a lifestyle... based on solidarity and respect fro the natural ecological boundaries of our planet" or whether humanity needs catastrophes to prompt such changes. There will also be a literary side to the festival called hoergeREDE, which pairs authors with musicians for a series of specially commissioned performances.
More artists will be confirmed for Elevate over the next few months.

Snowbombing have announced the first 30 acts confirmed for next year's festival in Austria.Post a comment
As in year's past, the week-long festival will take place in the village of Mayrhofen, and will encompass a range of unconventional venues: igloos, mountain stages, a 2,000 meter plateau, a 200-year-old barn accessible only by tunnel and so on. The bill promises to be Snowbombing's usual mix of electronic acts, bands and the occasional hip-hop artist, though so far the selection weighs heavily on the first camp. Highlights include James Zabiela, Heidi, Soul Clap and Style of Eye. Bass music comes courtesy of Pearson Sound, Jackmaster, Julio Bashmore and Toddla T, while Aeroplane, Metro Area and Lindstrom form the disco contingent. Groove Armada will deliver their Red Light performance. 30 more acts will be announced next week, and another 30 the week after.

Elevate Festival returns to Graz in October, running between the 20th and 26th.1 Comment
The seventh edition of the art and music festival is shaping up to deliver another eclectic program of electronic music. From the first batch of artists announced, British bass factions will be represented by Loefah and Boddika from his Swamp 81 clan, along with rising drum & bass force Rockwell. Space Dimension Controller will bring disco flavours to the bill, which also includes Hessle honcho Pearson Sound and distorted techno duo Somatic Responses. Badawi has been confirmed as well, along with Detroit wonderboy Kyle Hall, Morphosis and Berlin-based duo Hype Williams.
A selection of Austrian artists will also make their way onto the lineup. So far Graz-local Simon/off has been announced, whose productions have most recently found a home on Bristolian Kid Kut's Immerse Records. Viennese producers The Clonious and Cid Rim will also perform head-to-head as on their Full Nelson EP, released last year through Affine Records.
Once more an arts and "political discourse" program will run parallel to the four days of music taking place in the city's central Schlossberg venue. This year's selection of panel discussions, Q&A's, workshops, films and lectures will dissect the future in the face of technological advancement, around the central theme "Elevate the 21st Century."
