Global Darkness, the Dutch DJ collective linked with Crème Organization and the Godspill mailorder site, has announced a new label venture called R-Zone.

The premise of the label will be to put out anonymous 12-inches from a range of established producers. RA has been informed that JD Twitch, Willie Burns, D'Marc Cantu and Tuff City Kids are among the producers confirmed to appear on R-Zone at some stage. The label describes itself as "a shadowy place that never fully exists yet is always waiting," adding that "a cosmic, intergalactic energy pervades each release, transporting you to a world far away from here." The label's first release—R-Zone 01—is due out in April. For an idea of what to expect, you can stream snippets of all three tracks on the label's SoundCloud page.

Tracklist
A1 Houz Nation
B1 Rattler
B2 Smile Little Zoe

R-Zone will release R-Zone 01 on April 15th, 2013.

The 2013 STRP festival will take place from March 1st through 10th in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The ten-day music, art and technology event will again take place in the Klokgebouw building, and its 30-odd strong lineup includes hip-hop legend DJ Shadow, modern day beatsmith SBTRKT and Tri Angle artist Holy Other. TNGHT duo Hudson Mohawke and Lunice will both DJ separately, as will Moderat members Apparat and Modeselektor. There's a strong UK contingent, with Nonplus+ chief Boddika, experimental artist Jon Hopkins and Mala, who will perform his Mala in Cuba show, all confirmed. Dutch producer Martyn will debut his new audio/visual show at the festival, ahead of the release of his next album, The Air Between Your Words. The live show is a collaboration with Jeroen Erosie—the man responsible for many of Martyn's record sleeves—and Xavier Magot.

Ben Klock is at the top of the bill for the latest edition of Drift Festival, scheduled for May 18th at Vasim in Dutch city Nijmegen.

This is the third year that Drift has brought a top-notch lineup of techno and house artists to the Netherlands' oldest city. The focus, as usual, is on quality over quantity, with a number of Ostgut Ton-affiliated artists coming into town for the day. In addition to Klock, the festival will feature the house stylings of Steffi (whose Panorama Bar 05 mix is due out five days before the festival) and former Panorama Bar resident Prosumer. Chicago classics Virgo Four (who will play live) and Mano Le Tough will also bring a healthy dose of house to Drift. On the techno side of things, Ben Sims & Surgeon will play a set as Frequency 7, and Oscar Mulero will travel over from Spain. Dekmantel co-chief Thomas Martojo, locals Ferdi Blankena & Sense Unique and Drift organizer Brent Roozendaal will also play. More artists will be announced as the festival draws near, so keep an eye on Drift's website for the full lineup.

Ben Klock to headline Drift Festival

Awakenings Festival has announced the lineup for its 2013 edition, which is set to run all day this June 29th at the Spaarnwoude outdoor area outside of Amsterdam.

Not so much a traditional festival as a one-day event on a massive scale, Awakenings Festival spreads dozens of artists across eight spaces over 12 hours. Techno is, as ever, the event's primary focus and biggest draw. Perennial headliners and icons of the circuit like Carl Cox, Sven Väth, Ben Klock & Marcel Dettmann, Marco Carola, Jeff Mills and Loco Dice are all on board. But there's a good deal of variety in this year's lineup as well. More underground techno from the likes of Blawan, Peter Van Hoesen and Speedy J will feature, while selectors like Ben UFO, Nina Kraviz and DJ Koze will assure that techno isn't the only sound pumping through the speakers on the day. Organisers have brought in a number of live performers too, with Modeselektor and Gui Boratto among the highlights.

DJ Overdose will release an album called Bizarro World in April.

Real name Jeroen Warmenhoven, the producer has previously released EPs on Dutch labels including Bunker, Viewlexx, Murder Capital, Clone and Legowelt's now-dormant Strange Life. His sound is rooted in hip-hop, and draws on the dark, grubby electro commonly associated with his hometown of The Hague. Although Warmenhoven technically has one LP to his name already—2009's six-track effort In For The KillBizarro World will be his first full-length proper, coming in at 15 tracks, and will see release through Crème Organization.

Crème chief DJ TLR described the album, due out in April, as "a veritable tour de force in film noir electronics." It will be released through the sporadic Crème Eclipse series that specialises in electro, with recent releases coming from The Exaltics and Sumerian Fleet. For an idea of what to expect from Bizarro World, head over to the Crème SoundCloud page where snippets of all 15 tracks can be heard.

Michael Mayer will play a special ten-hour set at Trouw in Amsterdam on February 24th.

The marathon session comes at the tail end of Mayer's worldwide tour celebrating the release of his latest album, Mantasy. In addition to founding the Kompakt imprint and releasing two well-received artist albums, Mayer is also a renowned DJ. He's released three Immer mix CDs showcasing the softer side of his side—the first of which was chosen as RA's favourite compilation of the past decade—a dimension which he explores further on his recent RA podcast. Just as often, however, his sets can be uptempo and high-energy affairs, betraying the poppier slant of the Kompakt sound.

The show will take place a month after Trouw was granted a 24-hour license by Dutch authorities. The night will begin at 5:00 PM, and those who arrive before 8:00 PM get a free dinner at the venue with their entry. Other highlights from the month ahead include Laurent Garnier, Ben Klock, Lee Curtiss and Scuba.

Rush Hour Recordings will reissue Jesse Saunders' 1984 Chicago house classic "On & On."

Produced with engineer Vince Lawrence, the "Space Invaders"-sampling "On & On" is a cornerstone of the Chicago house canon and is generally considered as the first house record committed to vinyl. Rush Hour will re-release the 12-inch in the same form as it first appeared, with the original vocal mix featuring alongside five rhythm tracks (the artwork will also mimic the original release on Saunders' Jes Say Records). Last week we reported that Rush Hour were also planning to reissue N.A.D.'s obscure 1990 album Dawn Of A New Age. There's currently no official release date set for either release.

Tracklist
01. Original 12-inch vocal mix
02. 119
03. 5A
04. 1A
05. 4 A&B
06. I'm The DJ

On & On by Jesse Saunders will see release on Rush Hour Recordings.

Rush Hour reissue Jesse Saunders' On & On

Music News  Thu, 31 Jan 2013  /  3 Comments
Rush Hour Recordings have announced a forthcoming reissue of N.A.D.'s 1990 album Dawn Of A New Age.

The LP, which was first released on English label BPM, is a mix of early house, electro and techno. It currently fetches a tidy sum on Discogs and is probably best known for the track "Distant Drums," which was also released as a 12-inch single in 1989. The album is the latest in a long line of retrospectives released by the Amsterdam-based label: in 2012 they celebrated the work of The Burrell Brothers, Dream 2 Science and Elbee Bad, and in previous years the likes of Virgo, Anthony "Shake" Shakir and Gene Hunt have seen their early work dusted down and reissued. The label also has a Ron Hardy retrospective in the offing, having released a sampler 12-inch at the tail end of 2012.

A release date for Dawn Of A New Age—which features a number of tracks that didn't appear on the original release—is yet to be set, but you can stream snippets of the album over on the Rush Hour website.

Tracklist
01. Distant Drums
02. Everything Seems Different
03. Five Pillars
04. From Another Planet
05. Dawn Of A New Age
06. I'm Alive
07. Soul Search
08. Let There Be Light
09. Spheres
10. Perplexity
11. The Last Battle

This year's Lente Kabinet festival will take place on June 1st.

The festival is organised by the team behind Dekmantel, an Amsterdam based record label and booking agency. This year will see the event take place in the new location of Het Twiske in Amsterdam, with a strong DJing contingent headed up by Four Tet, Levon Vincent, Soul Clap, Floating Points, Boddika and Dekmantel co-founders Thomas Martojo and Casper Tielrooij.

The festival will also see a couple of back-to-back sets, with UK DJs Oneman and Jackmaster going toe to toe, while Steffi will play with former Panorama Bar resident Prosumer. Live performances will come from New York outfit Metro Area, Mala, Jacques Greene and Tom Trago. The non-musical element of the event will be curated by Amsterdam's Eddie The Eagle Museum, who will present a "Best Of" art exhibition.

John Beltran will release his ninth solo album, Amazing Things, in March on Dutch imprint Delsin.

The album comes two years after Delsin compiled Ambient Selections, a career-spanning retrospective of Beltran's experimental work. Amazing Things will consist of all new material, making it his first new album since 2006's Human Engine. The Michigan producer is best known for his extensive '90s output on labels like R&S, Peacefrog and Carl Craig's Retroactive (in recent times he's also developed a new sideline writing "all kinds of house" music for the Oprah Winfrey show).

"There was no real plan [for Amazing Things]," Beltran says. "Some of these songs are over two years old. This album is truly an accumulation of music inspired by my life as a new father but I didn't write these songs for an album per se. I guess it was just written with a lot of love." He added: "I'm using all new gear and virtual synths that I didn't have when writing Human Engine so it sounds different for sure. And let's just say that this album still wouldn't be finished had a friend not turned me on to the software Omnisphere."

Tracklist
01. Retrouvailles
02. Clouds Pull
03. Het Leven Is Mooi
04. Our Second Summer
05. Seasons Go
06. Amazing Things To Come
07. Esperanto
08. Inexorably Tied To You
09. Flower Power Nuclear Submarine
10. Of All The Things In This World
11. Medellin
12. Broken Mechanism
13. For Vangelis
14. Snow Day
15. Weekend Homage
16. Second Summer (Version 2)
17. The Second I Wake

Delsin will release John Beltran's Amazing Things on March 11th, 2013.
