The ambient duo will put out their new album early next year on Thrill Jockey.

Ambient duo Mountains will make the leap to larger independent label with the release of their third full-length in February of next year when the put out Choral on Thrill Jockey.

Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp had previously only released their critically acclaimed work on their tiny Apestaartje imprint—along with a recent vinyl-only LP on Catsup Plate—but they've apparently won the notice of one of Chicago's biggest indies. It's no wonder, as their droning epics are beautifully arranged and accessible. To put it another way: Imagine if Fennesz stripped out a great deal of that distortion he likes so much and got really into folk music. Choral is much the same as their previous work, taking listeners on a 50+ minute journey over the course of six tracks into the heart of Appalachian ambient.

Tracklist
01. Choral
02. Map Table
03. Telescope
04. Add Infinity
05. Melodica
06. Sheets Two

Thrill Jockey will release Mountains new album Choral on February 16, 2009.comment 9 Comments

Thu, 13 Aug 2009I agree with MLR. This album is the one ambient album that I have consistently come back to throughout the spring and summer and most likely autumn also. Wonderful.

Thu, 05 Mar 2009FYI, the LP version comes with two extra tracks (a whole side of an LP!) and a download code for a digital copy of the album. Vinyl lovers unite! :-)
