Soma go Beta

The Glaswegian label is set to release a compilation of new and upcoming artists.

Slam's Soma label have never been shy about compiling some of their favorite tunes, and early on in 2009 they'll have yet another one. This time, though, it's a bit different: Somabeta will focus on the imprint's bright young stars.

The compilation will help mark the founding of Soma's new sublabel, Somabeta. But just because they're spotlighting new talent doesn't mean that you won't have heard of any of the artists. Soma spotters will already be very familiar with names like Let's Go Outside and Mr Copy. Probably the biggest new act to be added to Soma's roster, however, is Gary Beck, who was propelled to the big time in 2008 after a tremendous amount of support from Richie Hawtin. Sui Generis, meanwhile, pops up with a track to follow up 2007's "Remarkable" on Rush Hour.

You might recognise the artwork from the competition that we ran earlier this year to design the sleeve for Soma's 2008 compilation. Shweta Malhotra's submission was a runner-up originally, but the guys at Soma decided that her wire baby was a perfect image for the embryonic Somabeta project.

Tracklist
01. Audiofillia - Eazy (Original Mix)
02. Let’s Go Outside - You Make Me Struggle (Jean Ramesse Remix)
03. Jandroide - Duckdive
04. Gary Beck - Restoration
05. Joe Stawarz - Taken Out (Remix)
06. Sui Generis - Bergheim
07. Mr Copy - Derive
08. Harvey McKay - Proxima
09. Audiofillia - Tu (Original Mix)
10. Let’s Go Outside - I See You Dancing

Soma will release Somabeta on February 2nd, 2009.comment 7 Comments

Sat, 20 Dec 2008Judging by the first release, this could be the more dancefloor based shape of things to come by Soma. Definitely going to be more up my street than some of the more electronic based releases that have frequented Soma in the last year or two. Looking forward to seeing how this will progress.

Also nice to see that another one of the excellent designs from the Soma compilation artwork competition made it onto the front of another release:... More
