  • Communikey have announced the initial names for their second annual festival, including headlining acts Claro Intelecto and Thomas Fehlmann. If you were forced to name the top cities for electronic music in the United States, Boulder, Colorado probably wouldn't be in the top ten. But Communikey is seeking to change that. Their initial announcements have revealed that a wealth of both American and international talent will be playing over the weekend of April 17-19, including quirky beatsmith Frivolous, Dirtybird's Christian Martin and Brooklyn-born techno phenom Nicolas Jaar. It isn't just the gigs that make the festival what it is, however. There will be various workshops focusing on software such as max/MSP, Isadora and Supercollider, and even a children's program run by Lukatoyboy. Parents shouldn't worry about the complexity of the children's workshop, however, as the Communikids scheme uses more tactile equipment such as Korg's Kaoss Pad and even the Nintendo DS. The festival will even host a special sneak preview screening of Amy Grill's long-awaited "Speaking in Code" documentary, which features interviews and performances from the likes of Modeselektor, Monolake and Philip Sherburne. Communikey prides itself on its environmentally responsible manifesto, meaning that renewable energy sources will be used in all venues where it is possible. And while you might not be interested in attending any of their sustainability panel discussions, your pocket will definitely be thanking them, as the organisers have made sure that all of the venues used are within walking distance of one another.
