Fabric - London

The Idjut Boys have mixed up the first disc of Dimitri From Paris' latest compilation, due out on BBE next month.

The three disc collection, entitled Night Dubbin', is set to showcase the lost art of the '80s dub mix; a particular style of remixing that was pioneered by the likes of Francois K, Tee Scott, Larry Levan and Shep Pettibone amongst others. Often found on the b-side to the standard mix, these dub mixes played around with the normal arrangement, and generally featured a manipulated version of the original vocal track. Dimitri has chosen his favourite 19 dub mixes for the two unmixed CDs, and has even thrown in a couple of his own homages for good measure, but the task of mixing Dimitri's selections together into a single disc mix is put down to the Idjuts themselves.

So why ask them to do it and not mix it himself? As Dimitri explains, "The Idjut Boys were the first producers I ever asked to remix a track of mine, and the first I invited to DJ with me in Paris. They were also the first to release my re-edits on their Noid Label, so it is quite fair to say the three of us have some history. When I was putting this compilation together, I immediately thought of asking them to further dub out the selection I was making. Their clever use of vintage techniques and live old school mixing bring these dub versions to life in one continuous spaced out trip."

Thu, 28 May 2009Picked up the CD y'day - nice chunky feel to the packaging, felt good

The music felt even better I was too young the first time around so this is an education for me, and inspiring as well reading the booklet.

Please can Vol.2 include the Frankie Knuckles Hallucinogenic Dub of Chaka Khan.... brings tears of happiness to my eyes.....
