  • Gavin Russom returns to the world of released music this summer, as he launches a new name, Black Meteoric Star, with the DFA imprint. For those who heard Russom's epic remix of Petar Dundov's "Oasis," you'll likely know what to expect from his new project: Lengthy, droning exercises in beat-laden techno are the name of the game, mixing Russom's love of classical minimalism from the likes of Philip Glass and Steve Reich with his inquisitive take on dance music. Russom plans to release three separate EPs on the imprint on vinyl, and then collect each release onto a full-length that will be released early next month. For those living in New York, you need not wait that long to hear Russom's music: On May 23rd, there will be a special show at MoMA, in which the tunes will be soundtracked by "international multimedia collective assume vivid astro focus" who are set to "produce a vibrant visual setting for this music, engaging participants in a celebration of dance, sound, and light." And for those not in NYC? Well, you can grab a download of a recent live set from Russom on Tim Sweeney's Beats in Space radio program here to get a taste as well. Tracklist 01. Death Tunnel 02. World Eater 03. Dominatron 04. Anthem 05. Dream Catcher 06. Dawn DFA will release Black Meteoric Star's Black Meteoric Star on June 9, 2009.
