The second DJ Flicks event is set to take place this Friday at Soho's Curzon Cinemas.
The concept behind the bash is to screen films and documentaries from a selected era of dance music, before challenging DJs to recreate the spirit of the time with a set comprised of the relevant vintage selections. After last month's disco extravaganza , the team have decided to plump for acid house for this weekend's event, enlisting Hacienda resident Jon Dasilva and Chi-house obsessive Neville Watson to dig deep for their respective retrospectives. The cinematic entertainment for the evening focuses on two separate subjects: firstly, the outdoor rave scene is profiled from both sides, with World In Action's scaremongering TV special providing the counterpoint for Piers Sanderson's High On Hope film, which documents the visceral excitement of Blackburn's illegal raves. Finally, there will be a short Hacienda documentary, before lucky attendees will be treated to a sneak preview of Gordon Mason's forthcoming house music history film, They Call It Acid .
