The guys behind the DJ History website are preparing the release of their second self-financed book.
Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton have previously written books such as
How To DJ Properly and
Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, but they're stepping behind the scenes of late, releasing a collection of columns from Rolling Stone journalist Vince Aletta, and now a collection of Gavin Watson's personal photographs from the UK's acid house scene in the late '80s. From the raves in the Slough Centre to random parties in Flackwell, the book offers a rare look at some of the parties that have been much talked about but rarely seen. Gavin is the brother of house DJ and producer Neville Watson (Hour House Is Your Rush, Dissident), and Neville will give his own contribution to the book in the form of some witty captions and annotations.
As with the Aletta book, the guys are giving away a free
36-page sampler of the book over at their website, so you're able to make an informed decision about whether to purchase. Early birds get the added bonus of a limited mix CD from Neville himself, which is comprised of only tracks from 1989, of course.
DJ History will release Raving' 89
on August 30th, 2009.
