The second volume of Rush Hour's
Beat Dimensions compilation will see a release later this year.
Curated by the label's own in-house hip-hop aficionados Cinnaman and Jay Scarlett, the
Beat Dimensions series was founded to showcase artists who are attempting to push the art of beatmaking forward. While the first edition made a vague concession to broken productions from the likes of
Aardvarck and
Tom Trago, the new wave of instrumental hip-hoppers coming through in the past couple of years means that
Volume 2 has a slightly more concise vision. However, there's plenty of diversity on offer, with the label notes telling us to expect "introspective, tripped out and buzzing synth scapes, short popping electronic songs [and] full-on MPC anthems." Cinnaman and Scarlett have searched far and wide for contributors to the release, sourcing productions from Switzerland (Dorian Concept, Dimlite), France (Fulgeance), Ireland (Mike Slott) and Los Angeles (Ras G,
Nosaj Thing, Samiyam) amongst other places.
