WMC 2010 : Shelborne Hotel

Peter Hook is set to release a double-disc collection of acid house classics with a Haçienda spin next month.

The New Order bassist could be said to have helped bankroll the Factory Records-owned club in its early days, back when it was a poorly attended gig venue, but the late '80s saw the club reverse its fortunes when Chicago house started to hit the shores of the UK. The acid house craze brought ravers to the Haçienda by the thousands, with resident DJs Mike Pickering, Graeme Park and Jon Dasilva overseeing what would become the soundtrack to a generation of house acolytes.

Peter Hook may have once suggested that New Order would have been better off if they gave ten pounds to every person who came to the club instead of keeping it open, but this compilation will see him personally selecting and mixing two CDs of acid anthems that slayed the Haç dance floor in the late '80s and early '90s. Now classic cuts such as "Baby Wants to Ride," "Voodoo Ray," "This Is Acid" and "Washing Machine" all appear alongside more obscure but no less worthy inclusions from Phortune and Charles B, with Hook also seeing fit to include the dub version of New Order's "True Faith."

The compilation has been scheduled to coincide with the October 5th release of the book Haçienda: How Not To Run A Club, which chronicles Hook and others' personal experiences of the venue.

Sat, 26 Sep 2009I was going to say, 'Great...who's he going to get to mix it?' but it looks like I've pretty much been beaten to the punch. And yes, tired selection to boot...actually makes me want to never play any acid house again.

Wed, 09 Sep 2009I didnt know Peter Hook faked his dj sets.
Fake orgasms or fake dj sets? you decide which is worse.

Another tribute to Tony Wilson's brainchild is good, but not too exciting imo.
I might still pick up a digital copy if it comes out.
