  • Belgian developers Image Line have unveiled details surrounding their latest version of the FL Studio 9 production suite. You have to hand it to Image Line. The product formerly known as Fruity Loops has been quietly and consistently doing its own thing in the DAW market for over ten years now, a trend that is set to continue with the arrival of FL Studio 9. Boasting five extra synthesizers, five new plug-ins, sidechaining and utilization of multi-core CPUs, the new addition expands upon the "old school" sequencer premise employed on previous versions, while offering improved editing and performance. Included within the new plug-ins are a vocoder (Vocodex), a stereo shaper, Gross Beat (a real-time pitch and playback mangler) and Autogun, which is said to include, "more than four billion presets," and is based upon the "rich metallic and shimmering timbres," of the program's Ogun synth. The "desk" has also had a facelift with the option to record up to 99 audio tracks at once through an improved 105 channel mixer. And, of course, current FL Studio users will again be able to take advantage of Image Line's free upgrade-for-life policy. Prices for the various Express, Fruity, Producer and Signature editions of FL Studio 9 can be found via the Image Line site.
