We Love... set to close for the season

One of Ibiza's most celebrated nights will host a huge blowout bash this Sunday.

Winter Music Conference 2010

Jeff Mills, James Zabiela, Hot Chip and many more are set to help close Space Ibiza this Sunday.

After a season of parties which saw Grace Jones and The Chemical Brothers headline the venue, We Love... will undoubtedly have some tricks up its sleeve for their closing event. We caught up with We Love...'s Mark Broadbent to chat about how the season went, what we can expect on closing night and what's coming up in 2010.
We've been hearing reports that numbers have been slightly down in Ibiza this year. Has this affected We Love... at all?

Yeah, numbers have been down in Ibiza this summer, and this is only to be expected I suppose in the current economic climate. Some parties have suffered in a big way with some clubs closing their doors and some nights putting on their closing parties earlier, Space included.

We have not done as many numbers as the last two years—our most successful in 11 years of trading at Space—but this has not affected our parties at all. Sometimes losing a few hundred people can make the party better for the faithful who have made the annual pilgrimage to Ibiza. We have seen this in previous years and what tends to happen is that the real party people let loose, the DJs play to them, the music is better and word gets around that Ibiza is kicking off again. Personally, I'd have to say that this year has been one of the best summers for music and people we have seen for some time.

Can clubbers attending the closing party expect any special goings on?

This year we have joined forces with Space for our closing, so we have the added arena of the carpark and all the frills that come with a Space closing Fiesta, we are open at midday for the last chance to dance outside under the sun in 2009. With our programming and the extra Spanish fiesta touches that Space brings to the table, this really will be the ultimate closing party in Ibiza this year.

What has been your personal highlight of this season's We Love... parties?

Pulling off the impossible with the Grace Jones show in August, six months of work coming to fruition and being surrounded by smiling people in awe of a true superstar performance. Not only the highlight of this season, but I'd have to say the highlight of my 15 years working in the scene. Other outstanding performances from Martin Buttrich, Joris Voorn, Carl Craig, Paul Woolford closing the terrace weekly, James Zabielia, Hell, Ivan Smagghe....far too many great acts to mention or remember! They've all made for a wicked season musically.

Do you have any amusing tales of debauchery from this season?

Oh yes!

You've had quite a high calibre of resident DJs this year. Are there plans to take anyone new on for next year's summer season?

Early days yet, but there are a few people who we are talking to. We have just signed Joris Voorn for a six-date exclusive residency for next summer but that's all we can say at the moment, although I will say that there is a certain South American that we are very interested in talking to about next year. It would be a great shame to see him in Pacha!

Any words of advice for clubbers flying over for the closing parties?

Monday mornings are all about Sands, Delano and Ryan O'Gorman after Space!

Wed, 07 Oct 2009Tiefschwarz in the carpark whilst raining was my highlight!

Was a joke from 11.30 till 1 though, felt like a full on stampeed with people coming in from the outside, so many people trying to fit inside the discoteca and terraza, it was full on horrible!!!!! Same as every year tho i guess...

Martin Buttrich's live set sounded pretty class from what my squashed, stressed and soggy ears could tell.... left shortly after that

Tue, 06 Oct 2009i thought this event was great, with Alfredo in the sunset terrace keeping the crowd bouncing and alive to the amzing Smokin Jo set that has the Terraza crowd pumping. 2 many djs were good but a completly different vibe to that of what was on prior to their set. We left about 6.30 and throughly enjoyed it

Cant believe they book a line up like that and didn't have set times. Got bored and left by 11pm

There was dude, I took a photo of it

1x A4 printout for 11-12 thousand people is pretty unacceptable though! Think we left about midnight to get pissed down the West End?!?!... More
