Pioneer have unveiled details of the CDJ-2000, the latest model of their industry standard CD decks.
With all the rumours, teaser videos and speculative mock-ups of what exactly would be in store for the new CDJ-2000, it's clear that this is one of the most anticipated upgrades to a product in recent memory.
The crux of the update rests upon Pioneer's new rekordbox technology which, in plain speak, is a management software system for your music. CD, DVD and SD memory cards can be hooked up to the device, but the key point that is likely to pique DJs' interest is the ability to connect a USB storage device, which essentially acts as your record box. Another interesting development is the Pro DJ Link system which enables you to send the files from your central USB or SD device out to up to four other players over an LAN cable.
Pioneer are also keen to shine a light on their new "Prepare & Perform" concept, which ties in with rekordbox's facility for preparation of Hot Cue Banks and Quantize information. More inclined towards digital vinyl systems? They've got you covered there too, thanks to the 2000's HID (human interface device) capabilities, allowing USB control over such devices. Managing vast quantities of music files obviously requires a tactile and easy-to-use interface, and on this front the boast is of a 6.1-inch full colour LCD screen. Housed directly below it, is yet another first for Pioneer: A waveform Needle Search/Needle Drop ribbon.
Also coming in for an upgrade is Pioneer's slightly more cost-effective CDJ-800 model. The CDJ-900 picks up the rekordbox technology outlined above, but will not accommodate DVD and SD memory card usage. Traditional feature differences between the two lines such as looping and memory card facilities also remain intact.
The Pioneer CDJ-2000 is available as of November 2009 at a sugessted retail price of €1799.
