Winter Music Conference 2010

The Berlin-based record shop and distribution network will turn 20 with a triple-room party next month.

Hard Wax has become somewhat of an institution over the course of its two decades, beginning life as the first shop in Berlin to specialise in house and techno releases. It still maintains a heavily respected body on the international techno scene, no doubt aided by owner Mark Ernestus' reputation as one-half of Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound. Ernestus will play one of the early sets for the party at WMF on Saturday December 5th, taking to the decks alongside Honest Jon's Mark Ainley for a set of dub and reggae, with Paul St Hilaire and others on mic duties. This upstairs room will be equipped with the shop's Killasan soundsystem (which was taken on a long-term loan from its Japanese owner), and will see sets from René Löwe, Errorsmith, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, Gernot from Modeselektor and a warm up from Hard Wax employees Torsten (AKA T++) and Sascha.

The live floor is also packed with Hard Wax family and friends, with former shop worker Electric Indigo set to get the floor rolling with her modern techno style. Substance will make his debut German live show and also play an improvisational hour on the 909 while Sleeparchive supplies loops and sounds. And as if that weren't enough, Frank Timm will unveil the first-ever live Soundhack performance after a set from MMM.

Speaking of firsts, Marcel Dettmann and Shed will present a debut Deuce performance before the two tag-team for the last stretch of the evening. Shed is on triple duty that evening: He'll also play a set of 140+ bpm tracks on the Special Interest Floor, with Prosumer and Frank Timm (this time as Sound Stream) taking over the remainder of the evening for an extended session of classic house. comment 15 Comments

Mon, 07 Dec 2009Great venue, perfect sound on the live floor and the special intrest (not too loud, which is always a major plus), great tunes!!

Sets of the night: Soundhack, DJ Pete as SubStance and DJ Pete & Sleeparchive.
Also worth mentioning, great opening set by Electric Indigo and closing set by Dettmann!

Crowd mix was good in general, an older, more audio minded kind of party people, but some kind of (strickter) door policy might have made it even better... I was getting annoyed with some... More

Tue, 01 Dec 2009wmf is cool imo, lovely sound on the main floor!
in the small room they just have to watch not putting it too loud like with 20yr groove party, then it's decent enough.probably will come and have a look here i reckon, soundhack and shakir sounds rather tasty
