Native Instruments unveil Kontrol X1

Designed for their popular DJ application Traktor, the X1 allows users hands-on control over its key functions.

Winter Music Conference 2010

Native Instruments have announced details of their first Traktor specific performance controller, Kontrol X1.

There has been a bit of a buzz surrounding the specifics of the Kontrol X1 ever since the video surfaced in late September of Richie Hawtin road-testing the unit at Berlin's Saturday Adventure Club. The controller is designed with Traktor's many looping, cue, effect, track selection and transport functions in mind, providing users with a simple integrated solution for manipulating their performance.
NI haven't limited themselves to an entirely Traktor-focused design, however, as the Kontrol X1 is also compatible with any MIDI-based DJ software, (a Serato Scratch overlay for the X1 will be available) doubling as a standard MIDI controller via a dedicated button.

One of the key boasts of the new unit is a level of responsiveness beyond the realms of a standard MIDI controller, thanks to its high-resolution protocol. The plug-and-play nature of the unit (no setup or specific configuration required) is also likely to be a big draw. And as those who watched the Hawtin clip may have noted, the X1 can be doubled-up for control over a four-deck setup. The X1 bundle also includes the entry level Traktor LE software, which can be upgraded to the fully fledged Traktor Pro system at any time.

Native Instruments will release Traktor Kontrol X1 in February 2010 at a suggested retail price of $229/199 Euro.comment 29 Comments

Thu, 21 Jan 2010Yeah going to order mine next week I think. See the new TSP update has an option for the X1 already. Should be just what I'm looking for so don't have to touch the pesky laptop again! If anyone has got their hands on one yet would love to know your feedback

I want machine to, but that is a little way off.

Fri, 15 Jan 2010I can safely say Maschine is the tits, got one the other day and can't stop playing on it!

as for the Kontrol X1, not seen one of these yet - will be getting a pre-order in though for sure :-)

Thu, 14 Jan 2010Anyone been lucky enough to see one in the flesh yet and have a fiddle so to speak?

Machine looks good as well. In fact the vids on NI site of DJ Rafik using both teh X1, TSP and Machine together are ace.

Sun, 27 Dec 2009I recently bought a NI Maschine for the Midi control over Traktor Pro and all I have to say is.... It works so well that it's scary! I've always used Traktor Pro for simply vinyl control DJ'ing and never touched the effects or loop functions of Traktor simply because I had no time to be messing with the keyboard other than to scroll and load. I bought the Maschine because (honestly) I needed another drum controller for other programs and in one day, two hours later. I was simply amazed at... More
