The Cologne producer has been at the forefront of the minimal and micro-house scene since he started out in the mid-'90s, steadily perfecting his restrained tech-house style with productions on Force Tracks, Kompakt Extra, Resopal Red and his own Ware imprint. His experienced production hand means that he's regularly inundated with remix requests, but ever the economical label head, Schaffhäuser always ensures that he'll be able to compile his versions of the tracks on Ware. Re:3 is the third such compilation in this vein, and sees Mathias apply his club-geared minimal house aesthetic to the likes of Faust, Nooncat, Philogresz, Gunne and Leigh Morgan.
Eight of the CD's nine tracks have been previously released (with the mix of Faust's "T-Électronique" appearing in its extended original incarnation), but the collection's final track sees Schaffhäuser take the knife to Patrick Cowley and Jorge Socarras' "You Laugh At My Face," which appeared on the recently unearthed Catholic album from earlier this year. Mathias was a huge fan of Socarras' Indoor Life band during the early '80s, which led him to call up Stefan Goldmann and Finn Johannsen at Macro Recordings to commission an exclusive remix of the track.
