- The compilation of rare disco and boogie from The Windy City is compiled by local vinyl emporium Mr. Peabody's Records.
BBE are set to release The Real Sound of Chicago compilation, compiled by Mark Grusane and Mike Cole of Chi-Town's Mr. Peabody's Records store, later this month.
Alongside New York and Detroit, Chicago helped define the sound of house music in the mid-'80s. Unlike other cities, however, Chicago's pre-house era disco and boogie output has remained relatively unknown, meaning that many of these tracks are now lost or rarely heard collector's items. Mr. Peabody's Records, owned by Grusane and Cole, has been a popular resource for local and visiting cratediggers since its doors opened in 2004. In collaboration with fellow disco aficionados BBE, the duo have put their exhaustive knowledge and record collections to good use, for this double-disc collection of '70s to early '80s dance floor material, exclusively from the Chicago area.
The collection of disco, rare boogie, and funk-laced tracks have all been remastered and are presented in full length, alongside a series of DJ-friendly "Mr Peabody's Edits," arranged by Grusane and Cole themselves.
