Carl Craig, James Pants, Mira Calix and Digital Mystikz are amongst the first acts to be announced for the events surrounding this year's Red Bull Music Academy.
Red Bull Music Academy have revealed details of the first seven events that will take place during their five-week stop in the English capital.
This year's workshops are split into two terms, with the first kicking off on Sunday 7th February, but those of you who weren't selected for the academy still have plenty that you'll be able to check out while Red Bull are in town. Authors and poets Dreda Say Mitchell, Alex Wheatle and Kate Tempest will begin on February 10th with a look into London's counter culture at Shoreditch Town Hall, while the first music event will be a night showcasing unreleased material from RBMA participants and specially selected producers at Plastic People the following evening.
If you're hankering for a party with big name acts, we might be able to help out, as we're co-hosting a party on the first Friday of the academy that will bring together Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald, Francesco Tristano, Matmos, Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz (performing for the first time together) and Terre Thaemlitz (AKA DJ Sprinkles) for a special evening of collaborations at the Southbank Centre. Revellers looking to flex to a bassier sound can instead head to Plan B for performances from El-B, Kenny Ken, Appleblim, Ramadanman, Hatcha and reggae legend David Rodigan.
Bass is again the focus at The Roundhouse on the following Wednesday, which sees a jam-packed line-up that spans drum & bass (Goldie, Commix), dubstep (Digital Mystikz, Caspa), reggae (Trojan Sound System) and hip-hop (Roots Manuva) in a unique sound system battle. If you're on a budget, however, you could always check out RBMA's free event at the ICA on Saturday 13th February, which features sets from Drums Of Death and James Pants as well as plenty of lectures and workshops.
The final show that has been announced so far is RBMA's "3D Soundclash," which will feature Martyn Ware's 3D Audioscape sound installation. The Human League and Heaven 17 member's exploration into space and sound will be coupled with a performance from Warp stalwart Mira Calix, with more acts due to be announced.
