  • German music tech developer Native Instruments have unveiled Massive Threat, the latest software instrument for use with their Kore platform. It would be fair to say that NI's soft synth behemoth Massive, has proven to be quite the hit among the electronic music community since its launch back in 2006. Although by no means subtle, the instrument is more than capable of tearing huge holes in the frequency spectrum thanks to its weighty three oscillator architecture, which is likely why it has been held in such high regard among proponents of the wobblier end of drum & bass and dubstep. Massive Threat draws upon this raw synthesis power and applies it to the Kore platform with a basis of 200 KoreSounds which can be morphed into eight separate sound variations resulting in 1,600 individual sounds. In terms of the instrument's sonic character, the press release drops the words "dystopian," "dark" and "Dubstep" which should hint towards the type of noise you could hope to extract from the thing. And, as is the case with all of NI's Kore-focused instruments, users of both the Kore 2 and free Kore Player will be able to utilize the product, while owners of the original Massive synth will be able to toss the patches into their bank of presets. Massive Threat is available for download purchase in the NI Online Shop for $59/49 EURO
