  • DJ Funk will top the bill at next month's Test bash in Dublin. Although they'll be hosting the event at their usual haunt of The Twisted Pepper, the party on Saturday 20th February will see the Test crew take over both floors of the club, with the main room offering a high octane house and techno style, and the basement showcasing a deeper and more relaxed electro and techno sound. Chicago's DJ Funk is the man in charge on the upstairs floor, and you can count on him to put in an energetic and rabble-rousing performance, working a frenetic ghetto house style that may be slightly rudimentary, but certainly works on the dance floor. Punters who find Funk a little much can always retreat downstairs, where another luminary of contemporary American dance music will be performing live. Dallas-born Gerard Hanson (AKA Convextion) reached the heady heights of #17 in our top 100 albums of the '00s poll with his eponymous debut full-length, and his deep, cerebral techno is just as lauded in the live arena. Apart from last year's Dublin performance (also at a Test night), Hanson's Irish appearances are few and far between, so fans should do their best to attend what is likely to be his only Irish show for at least the next twelve months.
