  • Before We Say Goodbye, the latest album by Irish techno producer Donnacha Costello, will be released next month on Poker Flat Recordings. The record will be Costello's first proper techno full-length since Growing Up In Public, his 2000 debut album on Force Inc. Music Works. Since then, Costello has released dozens of well-received singles and EPs, mostly on his own labels Minimise and Look Long. He also released an ambient long-player, Together Is the New Alone, on Mille Plateux in 2001. Costello is known for his ability to express somber emotion through steely electronic sounds, and as its title suggests, Before We Say Goodbye is no exception. Tracks like "Leaving Berlin" and "Last Train Home" deliver the bittersweet vibes that made his Color Series such a hit. But the album isn't all melancholy—"Stretching Time" and "Roll It Out," show Costello in peak-time mode, while "It's What We Do" brings a funky deep house groove into the mix. There are also some glistening beat-free selections, with tunes like "With Me Still," and "The Tug" softening up the second half of the album. Staying true to form, Costello recorded Before We Say Goodbye entirely with vintage analogue equipment. The drums were processed on a Native Instruments' Maschine, and his keyboard set-up consisted of a Roland SH-101, a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev2 (without Midi) and the New England Digital Synclavier II. Tracklist 01. Leaving Berlin 02. A Warm Embrace 03. It's What We Do 04. No-one Is Watching 05. Roll It Out 06. With Me Still 07. Stretching Time 08. The Tug 09. The Last Train Home Poker Flat Recordings will release Donnacha Costello's Before We Say Goodbye on March 15th, 2010. It will be available digitally as well as on CD and vinyl.
