The LA-based producer's next album will feature guest vocals by Thom Yorke.
Hip-hop experimentalist Flying Lotus will release his third album, Cosmogramma, this spring on Warp Records.
It will be the LA producer's first full-length since Los Angeles, the strange and brilliant post-hip-hop record that took the music world by surprise upon its release in summer of 2008. The album received top ratings here at Resident Advisor and gushing accolades from Pitchfork, Spin and Mary Anne Hobbs, who went so far as to call Flying Lotus "the Hendrix of his generation."
Riding the success of his previous album, Flying Lotus managed to nail down some very interesting collaborators for Cosmogramma—most notably, Thom Yorke of Radiohead, who sings on the track "...And The World Laughs With You." As the nephew of Alice Coltrane, FlyLo has also managed to recruit a few acclaimed jazz and classical musicians, including former Suicidal Tendencies bassist Stephen "Thundercat" Bruno and harp virtuoso Rebekah Raff, who appeared previously with Flying Lotus on the track "Auntie's Harp."
Musically, Cosmogramma shows Flying Lotus further perfecting his trippy and syncopated style of electronic beats. In an interview with Pitchfork Media, he said: "I'm finally getting to the point where I can make the kind of records that I want to make—that I wanted to make when I was younger, things that I dreamed about making. It's this fusion-y kind of thing where all the elements of the music that I love are there."
