  • Jeff Mills will perform "The Sleeper Wakes," his new stage-oriented DJ routine, in Berlin next month. In its most basic form, "The Sleeper Wakes" consists of Mills mixing a set with a highly unorthodox stage set up: Mills' equipment is sunken into the circular platform on which he stands, so the audience has an unobstructed view of him as he retrieves CDs from a large glass case and kneels down to mix them together on the decks below. Video projections further enhance the spectacle, interspersing abstract imagery with a bird's-eye-view of Mills at work. So far, "The Sleeper Wakes" has only been performed once, in Tokyo on New Years Eve, making the upcoming show in Berlin its European debut. Mills' performance will last an epic seven hours, with resident DJ Suzi Wong, and Austrian jock Carl Past set to play as well.
