Plastikman, Inner City, Model 500 headline Movement 2010

Paxahau has announced more than 50 of the artists set to perform this May at Movement 2010.

So far, many of the festival's most titillating acts will be performing live. Richie Hawtin will play as Plastikman for the first time in Detroit since 1994, headlining the festival with Model 500 and Kevin Saunderson's duo Inner City. Detroit pioneers Robert Hood and Kenny Larkin will deliver live sets as well.

Other notable names include DJ Koze, Martyn, Michael Mayer and Radio Slave. Basic Channel member Mark Ernestus will also make an appearance, along with fellow German acts Scion, Martin Buttrich and Chris Liebing. Magda and Paco Osuna will bring their signature minimal techno sound, while Agoria, Italoboyz and Onur Özer provide some minimal house grooves. Chicago house legend DJ Pierre has also been billed, as well as Larry Heard, Claude VonStroke, DJ Sneak, Jamie Jones and Ovum boss Josh Wink. And as always, the festival will include a healthy swath of Detroit mainstays, including Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, DJ Rolando and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, plus new school jocks like Luke Hess and Kyle Hall.

Movement 2010 will also feature plenty of acts from outside the house and techno zeitgeist, such as A-Trak, Kid Sister and Simian Mobile Disco. British beat scientist Hudson Mohawke will lay down some of his explosive day-glo rhythms, and Detroit hip-hop artists Guilty Simpson and Phat Kat will perform with local funk group Will Sessions.

Check out the RA event pages for the rest of the preliminary lineup, and stay tuned in the weeks ahead as additional acts are confirmed. If you're in Detroit and can't wait until May, Movement will be having a little kick-off event this Saturday with Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich, Livio & Roby at Reliv. comment 102 Comments

Sun, 20 Jun 2010I'd agree with the 4/5 rating for me personally as well. I saw many great DJ's and live acts. I was most impressed with Ben Klock, Chris Liebing, Marco Carola and Plastikman sets. The only disappointment was the Detroit police closing many of the parties early.

Tue, 15 Jun 2010Sunday was epic!

I started the day with:
Martin Buttrich, then bounced back and forth the rest of the day between amazing shows. Cassy - Pierre & Sneak. Then has the hardest time deciding how long to stay between, Derrick May, Hawtin and Robert Hood. Out of all of that excitement and talent, Robert Hood was killing it and was a true statesman as a performer, it was so hot down there and he stood there stoicly and buttoned-down just delivering real Detroit minimal, truly sick to... More

people were going absolutely nuts when she dropped a remix of Arethra Franklin's respect at the peak; unfortunately they were frat boys. Much respect though.
The corporate presence was definitely felt and the clientele might not have been the best but it's America and I guess they don't know different

i think you are confusing frat boys with high school kids, because there were a lot of local kids

Model 500 - Juan asked for the lights to be turned down so they could do something a little different, and played what I think was a very stripped down and hypnotic version of Starlight, and at the end Shackleton's name floated around the screen - anyone got any info on this? Can't seem to find anything about a remix. Great, but sobering end to the festival.

This was the reference the visuals were getting at, to go along with the space / exploration... More

Mon, 14 Jun 2010Not the greatest review to be honest. My highlights:

Kyle Hall: eclectic but grooving, nice selection for the time of day. Levon Vincent's Late Night Jam and Adonis' No Way Back made appearances. Shame about the last track, completely cleared the floor.

K (Kelli) Hands: Had no idea who she was but a friend convinced me she was good stuff. She played a huge variety of stuff verging on crowd-pleasing but it was easily the craziest atmosphere I witnessed at the festival - people were going... More
