- The Cologne-based duo will release their next full-length this summer.
Niederflur will release their next album, Bipolar, early this summer on their new digital label, Niederflur Tracks.
The duo first formed at the end of the '90s, when they began making dark minimal techno inspired by the atmosphere of Cologne's U Bahn. Impressed by what he termed "basslines from hell," Richie Hawtin signed Niederflur to Minus, then a fledgling new label, and released the duo's debut album as well as their next several records.
To this day, Hawtin remains a big fan of Niederflur. "Since their first records I’ve always been intrigued with their delicate balance of instrumentation and space," he says. "Not to be lumped in with any specific trend or genre, Niederflur slips between all of them delivering music that is at home both on the dance floor and within your favorite pair of headphones."
Bipolar will be the group's first full-length in almost a decade, following 2002's ND4. The new record shows Niederflur continuing to work with a sleek and futuristic techno sound, while also blending elements of dubstep into their palette.
