- Type Records will release three albums by the drone pioneer this August.
UK-based experimental label Type Records is set to re-release three essential drone albums by the German artist Thomas Koner.
Over the course of the '90s, Koner was a pioneer in the niche world of ambient drone music. Rather than working with melody and rhythm, He was interested in sound texture or "color," creating vivid drones with homemade wind instruments and gongs in carefully measured spaces, including underwater chambers. His music saw release on a variety of experimental labels, such as the original Mille Plateaux, and in recent years has earned him commissions for numerous art installations and film soundtracks. Koner dabbled in techno production as well, putting out a slew of club records as half of the duo Porter Ricks.
The new triple CD-set on Type Records contains Koner's first three albums: Nunatak, Teimo and Permafrost, which were originally released between 1990 and 1993. Type also repressed the same three records earlier this summer on vinyl.
