- The 81-year old producer and his "spiritual son" will release a new record this summer.
French electronic pioneer Jean Jacques Perrey is set to release a new full-length, Froots, in collaboration with In Vitro artist Cosmic Pocket.
With a career dating back to the late '50s, Perrey is one of electronic music's earliest innovators. A longtime friend of Robert Moog, he was one of the first artists to experiment with splicing tape to create loops and sequences, and over the course of his career worked with everyone from Walt Disney to Luke Vibert. All the while, his music been unusually high-spirited, a habit he explains thusly, "Today, more than ever, mankind continues to face so many negative influences," Perrey says. "Many years ago I decided to make it my musical mission to contribute by bringing more optimism, humor and faith in the future to all my brothers and sisters of this planet."
Froots will be Perrey's first full-length since 2007's Moog Acid, his most recent collaboration with Vibert. It features 14 cuts of over-the-top electronic pop, with a bit of glitch influence thanks to Cosmic Pocket, a French artist who has so far released only one record, 2004's Astral Tale. The album will be followed by a remix compilation, Froots Juice, which will include 29 reworks by artists like Slugabed, Wevie Stonder and Team Doyobi.
