Later this month, Melvin Oliphant III, AKA Traxx will throw his own birthday party at Smart Bar, flanked by fellow Chicagoan Jamal Moss, AKA Hieroglyphic Being.

Between Moss and Oliphant, the party will feature some of Chicago's finest current underground talent. Each producer champions his own distinctive brand of raw, old school style house; Moss with his chaotic 12-inches on Mathematics and Oliphant with the rough-edged "jakbeat" of his own Nation label. Both artists feel they owe much of their inspiration to Windy City legend Ron Hardy, and for Traxx's birthday, they'll get support from another Hardy disciple: Naughty Wood, a Minneapolis-based producer with two releases on Nation.
