- This weekend's concert with M.I.A., Die Antwoord, Flying Lotus and N.E.R.D. has been called off.
- Just five days ahead of the event, HARD LA has been canceled. Scheduled for this Saturday night at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, the concert should have featured hip-hop and electronic acts like M.I.A., Die Antwoord, Flying Lotus and The Gaslamp Killer. At this point, reasons for the cancellation are not totally clear. The Los Angeles Times initially reported that the decision stemmed from a combination of poor ticket sales and increased security concerns following last month's Electric Daisy Carnival, where drugs and unruly crowds led to over a hundred hospitalizations and the death of a 15-year-old girl. Electronic events in LA have faced increased public scrutiny since then, as the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors work to "enhance rave safety," with one official calling for a "rave moratorium." Meanwhile, HARD L.A. promoter Gary Richards downplays the significance of security issues, claiming his group simply "thought it would be better" to combine Hard L.A. with next month's Hard Summer Music Festival, which features Crystal Castles, Soulwax and Diplo among others. "We've been working with the city for months and all our security plans were approved. The city was pleased with our plan... This didn't have anything to do with security issues." In addition to offering full reimbursements to ticket holders, HARD announced that tickets for HARD L.A. will be valid for HARD Summer Music Festival. This isn't the first time HARD has canceled one of its big events. Last year, they were forced to end the HARD Summer Music Festival several hours early when hundreds of "gate-crashers" rushed onto the dance floor from the seats–one of the same problems that plagued this year's Electric Daisy Carnival.
