  • Soho vinyl emporium Phonica Records have announced details for their seventh anniversary party, set to take place early next month at Corsica Studios. Opened in 2003 by a team including Simon Rigg and BBC Radio 1 DJ Heidi, Phonica has persevered in the difficult vinyl market despite the continuing decline of record stores in London's west end, as demonstrated with the closure of Vinyl Junkies this spring. Phonica's tastemaker reputation has contributed to its ongoing success, as have its year-old inhouse label and the high profiles of its staff, which includes Heidi, Anthea, and Mobilee signee Hector. For this year's birthday bash, Phonica have drafted Chicago producers Merwyn Sanders & Eric Lewis, AKA Virgo. The London engagement will be part of a short run of European live dates for the pair following the re-release of their defining 1989 LP Virgo via Dutch label Rush Hour. Keeping in the vein of classic house, Virgo will be joined by Henrik Schwarz, who will reprise his slot from Phonica's 2nd birthday party with another energetic live set. Rush Hour and Perlon affiliated Dutchman San Proper is set to appear as well, along with Four Tet, whose remix of Bob Holroyd's "African Drug" will be released on the Phonica imprint on the day of the party. Also joining in on the fun will be Permanent Vacation's John Talabot, Midland, and an extended cast of Phonica DJs. Tickets for the Phonica 7th Birthday are now available here on RA.
