Matt Edwards, AKA Radio Slave has has mixed Strictly Rhythms Vol. 5, the classic New York house label's newest compilation.

In his own productions as Radio Slave, Edwards' sound veers toward modern, often repetitive house and techno—or what he describes as "purely sound system music." But as anyone who's heard him DJ can attest, his taste in general has a strong classic house influence, in which labels such as Strictly Rhythm play no small part. "I have loved Strictly material for years, their tracks are pivotal, some of them make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up!" he says. "The records I chose for this mix are the ones I'd still play when I'm out."

Strictly Rhythms Vol. 5 spans two discs, each with a distinctly different mood: The Downtown Mix is a low-tempo, afterhours affair, while the Uptown Mix keeps up a more jacking vibe. The compilation has 23 classic cuts in total, 18 of which have been re-edited by Edwards to better suit his stripped-down style. It will follow past editions by Charles Webster, Michel Cleis, Kenny Dope and Mr. V.

Wed, 16 Feb 2011Radio Slave for Strictly Rhythms? Yes I noticed that, but I'm just about to give this some attention.

Tue, 28 Dec 2010As much as I don't wish to hear the chart hits of Strictly rehashed yet again, many (though not all) of these tracks are buried deep in the catalogue simply because they are unexceptional. Not a mix I will be revisiting with any great frequency!

Mon, 22 Nov 2010Tracklisting doesn't blow you away, looks ok but how many different ways can they release this stuff?

Sun, 21 Nov 2010In my opinion, artwork is and should be important part of an album's concept. I think that now more than ever labels and artists should put an effort in making great covers and sleeve notes so consumers have a bigger incentive for keep buying CD's. About this mix I can't say anything 'cause I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure is really good.

Fri, 19 Nov 2010If music is good then it's good, no doubt about that, but I do agree with it being important to have solid artwork, in most cases you experience a release visually through the sleeve before hearing it and thats important. It's all part of the package.
