  • Contemporary composer Brian McBride, best known as half of Stars Of The Lid, will release a new album next month called The Effective Disconnect. The new full-length was composed as a soundtrack to Vanishing of the Bees, a 2009 documentary that examines the mysterious dying off of bees worldwide and its possible effects. When the directors approached McBride to compose the soundtrack, they suggested he focus on four themes: "the gloriousness of the bees, the endurance and hardships of traditional beekeepers, pesticides and the holistic nature of non-industrial agriculture." McBridge says he was "especially intrigued with the idea of combining some of their mournful aspirations with something more serene." Stylistically, The Effective Disconnect is contemporary classical music that sometimes borders on ambient—a sound that will be familiar to fans of Stars of the Lid. The goal was to create something a bit more hopeful than McBride's usual fare, but he admits that "old traditions die hard," and what he came up with sounded "more appropriate for a different and more forlorn film." The album will see release on Kranky, a post-rock and experimental label based in Chicago. Tracklist 01. Melodrames Telegraphies (in B major 7th) Part 1 02.
