- The massive new analogue synth will be released later this year to coincide with the Minimoog's 40th anniversary.
Moog Music have unveiled a new top-of-the-range monosynth, the Minimoog Voyager XL.
This new synth is being framed as the fantasy meeting between Moog's classic Minimoog Model D and their Voyager range; or in other words, the Minimoog Voyager XL combines the warmth and grit of the Mini's oscillators and filters with the Voyager's more modern flourishes such as stable oscillators, patch storage and MIDI control functionality.
As is immediately striking from the released images of the XL, a large portion of the synth's front panel has been dedicated to modular patching, opening up all sorts of possibilities in terms of integration with other gear and and customization of sounds. The eagle-eyed among you may also have spotted that this is a 61-note offering (velocity sensitive with after-pressure) and also features a ribbon controller with pitch and gate CV outputs. Other notable features include a touch surface controller, external audio input, effects loops insert and a solid oak cabinet, although we suggest heading over to the Moog Music site via the link below for the full rundown of the XL's spec.
As you might expect, the XL is—at a suggested retail price of $4995—in the upper echelons of the affordability range, although the high cost will likely just fan the flames of the XL's ultra premium reputation pre-release.
