Laurent Garnier's new L.B.S group will begin a European tour this evening in Aix-en-Provence, France.

Whether we think of this new project as Laurent & Ben & Stephane, Live Booth Sessions or Loud Bass & Samples (all are acceptable apparently), what's clear is that L.B.S will be comprised of Laurent Garnier, Benjamin Rippert and Stephane "Scan X" Dri. The inspiration for the group struck Garnier while on his recent Tales of a Kleptomaniac tour: "It was obvious that after a long period spent touring round some of the biggest festivals, I was going to feel an overwhelming desire to go back to my roots (clubs and records)," he says, "but the idea of finding myself alone behind two decks was impossible. So why not combine the two?" The upshot of this will be Garnier manning turntables and "machines," Rippert playing keys, and Dri on also on machines. The idea is that Garnier will have the freedom to weave other people's music into the set via decks, juxtaposing live renditions of his own material.

"After more than twenty years spent DJing, I really wanted to take it a step further," adds Garnier. "Sometimes, when I see other DJs playing out today I get the feeling that they're bored, that they don't get off on what they're doing anymore. It is very clear to me why the idea behind L.B.S came to life because not only will it give my work a new lease of life, it will also offer a new and very different experience to club goers."

L.B.S plan to tour throughout the rest of the year and into 2011. The journey will begin in earnest this evening at Spartacus Club in Aix-en-Provence, and go on to further French dates in Montpellier, Bordeaux and Paris. Dates in November will include a trip to Sankeys in Manchester, which will be followed by a trio of German dates: Frankfurt's Robert-Johnson, Berlin's Berghain and Leipzig's Distillery. And December will see the group travel to the UK to play London's Village Underground on the 3rd, Amsterdam the next night for Time Warp Holland, and end up at Brussels' Fuse club on Saturday, December 18th.
