- The minimal house imprint has a UK bass sub-label in the works.
London-based label Lick My Deck have launched a new sub-label called LMD SkunkWorks, which will offer dubstep, garage, UK funky and the like.
The label takes its name from a term commonly used in business, science and technical fields; skunkworks refers to an experimental lab or department within an institution, often that operates without much interference from its parent company. This is a fitting name for a UK bass label within Lick My Deck, which has traditionally pushed a minimal house sound a la Thomas Melchior, Mikael Stavostrand and [a]pendics.shuffle. LMD SkunkWorks' first release will be from Nocturnal Sunshine, AKA Maya Jane Coles, a London-based producer who makes up half of the duo She Is Danger. It will feature two tracks, "Can't Hide the Way I Feel" and "Broke," the former of which some sharp-eyed readers will remember from Scuba's RA podcast last spring. Details on future releases are still forthcoming.
