  • London-based imprint Third Ear Recordings will launch a new label in January called Groovemental, with the first releases coming from a jazz outfit called Dumb Machines. Third Ear has been in operation for the last decade or so, releasing records by American and English producers like Norm Talley, Delano Smith and Wbeeza. They decided to launch Groovemental primarily as a platform for Dumb Machines, whose music is too far out of Third Ear's deep house remit, though releases by other artists will follow. At this point details on Dumb Machines are scarce, except that they are a jazz band who specialize in covers of house and rock tunes. Their first 10-inch features renditions of two club tracks: Armand van Helden's remix of "Professional Window" by Tori Amos and Carl Craig's remix of "Falling Up" by Theo Parrish," with the latter featuring lines of poetry by the Irish writer Louis MacNeice. This will be followed by a digital releases entitled The Grooves at the Back of Our Minds Part 1, which includes both tracks from Groove001 along with covers of David Bowie, Talking Heads and American jazz pianist Dave Brubeck. All of the songs were recorded in London at Abbey Road studios. Tracklist Groove001 A Falling Up B Professional Widow Grooves at the Back of Our Minds Part 1 01. David Bowie - John I'm Only Dancing 02. Theo Parrish - Falling Up 03. Dave Brubeck - Unsquare Dance 04. Talking Heads - Who Is It? 05. Professional Widow Groovemental will release Groove001 on January 10th and Grooves at the Back of Our Minds Part 1 on January 13th, 2010.
