- Kranky will release the ambient electronic artist's next album in February.
Canadian ambient artist Tim Hecker has a new album due out early next year called Ravedeath, 1972.
Hecker has been churning out fuzzy, collage-based drones since 2001. To date he's put out seven albums on labels like Kranky, Alien8 and Mille Plateux, most of which have met with considerable critical acclaim, especially 2006's Harmony in Ultraviolet. He's kept especially busy as of late: his last full-length dropped in 2009, he re-released his debut album Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again earlier this year, and now he's already got another full-length ready to go.
All this productivity makes the tone of his new album a bit puzzling: "Studio Suicide," "Analog Paralysis" and "Hatred of Music" are not the sort of titles you'd expect from such a feverishly active artist. When asked where the album's title, specifically, came from, Hecker responded that he "had no idea how it manifested. Sort of ghostwritten, like fingers on a Ouija board." No word yet on what Ravedeath sounds like, but if Hecker's previous records are anything to go by, expect loads of washing, colorful static, ala Fennesz or Oneohtrix Point Never. The album will come out Valentines Day via Chicago imprint Kranky.
