  • The nominees for the 2011 edition of The Grammys have been announced, and can be read in full on the award ceremony's official website. It's safe to say The Grammys have never really had their finger on the pulse of electronic music--take, for instance, their decade-late nod to Daft Punk's "Harder Better Faster Stronger." And while NY Magazine thinks the performers at next year's ceremony "nudge the Grammy's toward relevance," the same could not be said for all of the nominees: among this year's picks for Best Electronic/Dance Album are BT, Groove Armada, Goldfrapp and past winners The Chemical Brothers. The forecast is a bit rosier in Best Dance Recording, where Robyn and La Roux have received nominations alongside huge name pop artists Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Voicing his response to this year's picks via Twitter, Flying Lotus had this to say: "Suck a donkey dick." No doubt many fans will agree. But if the nominations seem a bit dated, rest assured that this is by no means isolated to electronic music: nods from other categories include Barbara Streisand, Rod Stewart, Alice in Chains (whose frontman died eight years ago) and Soundgarden, a grunge band whose reunion could only have been foreseen by The Onion. The 53rd annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 13th, 2011.
