- Gerald Donald's new ensemble will debut on Rephlex next month.
Detroit techno veteran Gerald Donald (AKA Henrich Mueller) has a new group called Zwischenwelt, whose debut album will come out next month on Rephlex.
Zwischenwelt (German for "in-between world") is the latest in a long line of techno projects Donald has been involved in, many of which have achieved devout cult status (Drexciya, Dopplereffekt, Arpanet, etc). The group is conceptually inspired by parapsychology, a scientific field that investigates paranormal phenomena such as telepathy, psychokinesis, precognition and the like. Unsurprisingly, the record makes for a very cold and eerie listen: mid-tempo beats and icy female vocals hark back to '80s new wave and electro, while Donald's classic production style lends an unmistakably Drexciyan feel.
Aside from Donald, the group includes New York DJ and producer Susana Correia, Spanish artist Penelope Lopez and German vocalist Beta Evers, who runs the Augsberg label Kommando 6. Paranormale Aktivitat will be released digitally and on CD, as well as on limited edition double-vinyl.
