The first album by Mr Raoul K is called Introducing My World, and will come out this March on Mule Musiq.

Raoul Konan was born on Africa's Ivory Coast, and though he's lived in Germany since 1992, he still wears his heritage on his sleeve. Many of the records he's put out so far draw heavily from West African traditional music, and never more so than on Introducing My World. Source material for the album was recorded in his home town of Agboville with the help of local musicians, so many of the tracks are dominated by chants and live percussion. Konan put the record together back at his studio in Luebeck, placing new tunes side by side with some ones, like a new edit of his 2008 A-side "Himalaya," and his recent collaboration with the German trio Wareika. Introducing My World will be one of Raoul K's few albums to be released outside of his own imprint, Baobab Music.

Tracklist
01. A Guinean Village
02. The African Government
03. Japan Japon
04. Africa
05. Himalaya (album edit)
06. Li Voi Rien
07. The Green Thing
08. Le Cercle Peul (club mix)
09. Le Triangle Peul (mdp mix)
10. Introducing My World
11. Rainning Love

Mule Electronic will release Introducing My World on March 14th, 2011.

Tue, 22 Mar 2011I had no idea where Mr Raoul K was from until I read this review. All I knew was that I enjoyed some of his fresh sounding releases. And will most likely check out the album.

Sun, 20 Mar 2011Wow, really?
The reviewer handles things a little more diplomatically, but you seem to sum up the sentiment effectively: the sound is too African. (...or too Black.)

I've hardly read a review accusing anything of sounding too European. And if Europeans are making it, it would be impossible to judge it as too African. And if Africans are making it, perhaps it would be inauthentic for it to sound too European. All this aside from the fact that this particular release happens to be on an... More
