- The Robsoul founder's next album is all about funk and soul.
Parisian DJ and producer Phil Weeks will release his next album, Love Affair, in February.
As the founder of French house establishment Robsoul Recordings, Weeks has built his career on warm and groovy club tunes. Love Affair shows him continuing to do what he does best, but also working in something a bit different: a heavy-handed house, soul and funk influence. As a result, the album sports none of the acid or "techy" sounds Weeks has dabbled in before. The production technique was different as well: Weeks put the entire thing together with an MPC3000, a sampler that's more common in rap and R&B than it is in house and techno. "It's all about sampling, cutting, tweaking the samples in pieces and doing a puzzle, like they do in hip-hop," he says. "Producers like J-Dilla, DJ Premier and 9th Wonder. I was inspired a lot by this."
The album will be Weeks' first in nearly eight years, after Yeah I Like That!. It features almost all new tracks, plus the single "All Day Every Day," which came out last November and promptly shot up to the #2 spot on our monthly charts. Love Affair will be available as a limited edition double-vinyl pack as well as digitally and on CD.
