  • Mannheim house producer Nick Curly is currently on a world tour that will take him to cities in the US, Europe and Asia between now and the beginning of April. The trek coincides with the release of his next 12-inch, the Azylyum EP, out this week on Cecille. It began in Australia on New Year's Eve, and has since included dates in the US and around South America. After this week's gigs in Miami and Minneapolis, he'll head overseas again for dates in Germany, China, Japan, Italy and France, the finish the whole thing up at Time Warp in Mannheim. In the midst of this tireless jaunt, Curly took the time to chat via email about what he's got in store for 2011.
How was your New Year's? 2011 started with two great gigs in Australia. It was the first time that I celebrated the new year in a country where it is summertime. I did Brown Alley in Melbourne for New Year's eve and the Space New Year Day festival in Sydney on NYD. What are some projects you have coming up in 2011? I just finished my next EP for our label Cecille. Also I have been lucky enough to remix the Silicone Soul classic "Right On" for the 10 Years of Soma compilation and I have also completed another remix, 2000 and One's "Tropical Melons" on Cocoon. What were some highlights from last year? Any favorite parties? 2010 was a great year for me. I played lots of cool parties. For sure one of my highlights were the gigs I played in Ibiza last season for Kehakuma at Space and Cocoon at Amnesia. Also I had some great gigs in South America where I played in hidden places. You toured pretty heavily over the last six months, and now you're about to ship out again. Does it ever feel like too much? My agent did a great job in planning the tours. For sure spending 85 hours in one week in planes sucks, but the parties were great and I always had lots of fun, and I met so many great and interesting people who enriched my life. Are there any dates on the tour you're particularly excited about? Oh yes, I'm really excited about the China date in Shanghai for example. I have never been there before and I would really like to know how the scene is down there. Also I meet really nice people in Uruguay and at the BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen. What record are you playing most at the moment? Oh good question. I think I have a few that I really like at the moment. The Superlongevity on Perlon is great, and I have big respect that they did this seven Vinyl Box.
