  • Beatport has signed an international licensing deal with EMI Music that will allow them to stock titles from the English company's vast catalog of music. As the fourth largest business group in the recording industry, EMI holds dozens of record labels under its umbrella, from indie imprints like Mute and DFA Records to Virgin Music Group and all of its sublabels (including Astralwerks). At this point neither party can estimate how much more music will be added to Beatport as a result of the deal, though given the scale of EMI's catalog, the difference is likely to be substantial. At the very least, the deal will fill some conspicuous gaps in Beatport's selection, including releases from Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, LCD Soundsystem, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk to name a few. "EMI's catalogue is a significant addition to Beatport's repertoire of the most influential and groundbreaking artists in the dance music space," said Beatport CEO Matthew Adell. "We are thrilled to make such a rich and diverse catalogue available to our customers." The first release through the new deal is Alex Metric and Steve Angello's Open Your Eyes, a new single through EMI's own Positiva label. The instrumental mix of the track is currently available, and the rest of the single will follow in March.
