  • Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon have announced plans to relaunch Classic Music, the house label they co-founded in the mid-'90s. More than most record labels, Classic's days were limited from the start: in a famous gimmick, the catalog numbers for its vinyl releases began at 100 and counted down with each record. Carter and Solomon said when they got to zero, the label would cease operation. They mostly stuck to their word, though Classic have continued releasing CDs and digital EPs ever since (which, incidentally, began at number 100 and counted up). Over the course of its ten year heyday, the imprint put out music from a diverse cast of artists, from American acts like DJ Sneak and Metro Area to European names like Isolee, Tiefschwarz and Perlon co-founder Markus Nikolai. The relaunch of Classic means all of the label's back catalog will be remastered and released digitally for the first time. This will happen in three phases: the first batch comes out on April 4th, and the rest will follow on April 25th and May 16th. No word yet on which records will be in which batch, but there has been mention of a new Luke Solomon album and a re-release of Derrick Carter's Squaredancing In A Roundhouse with bonus tracks and remixes.
