The post-rock outfit's second LP features Matias Aguayo, Gary Numan and Boredoms' Eye on vocals.

The second album from Battles is called Gloss Drop, and will come out this summer on Warp Records.

A lot has happened since we last heard from Battles–namely, the departure of Tyondai Braxton, who reportedly split from the band in the middle of a recording session last summer. Braxton's role was always dynamic (he tended to jump around between guitar, electronics and a rack of various pedals), but he also posed as the group's lead singer. To fill in the gap, the three remaining members have enlisted a cast of guest vocalists, including Gary Numan, Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead, Yamantaka Eye of the Japanese group Boredoms and Kompakt's Matias Aguayo. In a recent interview with Pitchfork, guitarist Dave Konopka described the album thusly:

"There's a good spectrum–some shorter songs, some poppier songs, some total rock songs, some more out-there songs, some manic songs, a semi hip-hop-vibe song."

Battles are currently gearing up for a full blown world tour. Starting in Osaka next month, they'll hit more than 20 dates around Asia, Europe and the US, including slots at SonarSound and Primavera Sound Festival.

Tracklist
01. Africastle
02. Ice Cream feat. Matias Aguayo
03. Futura
04. Inchworm
05. Wall Street
06. My Machines feat. Gary Numan
07. Dominican Fade
08. Sweetie & Shag feat. Kazu Makino
09. Toddler
10. Rolls Bayce
11. White Electric
12. Sundome feat. Yamantaka Eye

Warp Records will release Gloss Drop on June 6th, 2011.

Mon, 06 Jun 2011Fair review. Mediocre follow up to what was and still is a quite enjoyable first album.

Sun, 05 Jun 2011Saw them play for B EP/C EP release, Mirrored release and now Gloss Drop release.. I have to say that, live, while Braxton's absence is notable, the remaining members aren't performing behind a gaping Tyondai shaped void. They were fantastic, they simultaneously rocked out and were extremely danceable. If only all of the 'too cool to dance' indie kids in the crowd felt the same.
