  • Silent Servant will play a Bent Crayon party this weekend in Cleveland. John Mendez's history as a techno artist dates back to the late 1990's, when he produced under the alias Jasper. These days he is known as Silent Servant, and as a member of Sandwell District, the label and production collective led by Function and Regis. Together, their deep, angular sounds have become famous in underground techno scenes around the world, with their debut vinyl album selling out quickly upon release last year. Besides his production contributions, Silent Servant also manages the group's artwork, both on the vinyl sleeves and on the cryptic Where Next? blog. The Friday night event will also feature local DJ's Jimi Tsang and Mark Strauss, and will be sponsored by the Cleveland record store Bent Crayon.
